Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (for glaze)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (for glaze)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until caramelized, about 20-25 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, eggs, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and cooled caramelized onions. Mix until combined.
  • Fold in shredded Gruyère cheese. Shape mixture into a loaf and place on a lined baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Brush glaze over the meatloaf.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  • Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute Gruyère with Swiss cheese for a similar flavor.
  • Use lean ground beef for a less greasy result.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
