This luscious caramel frosting is smooth, buttery, and packed with rich caramel flavor. Made with simple ingredients like brown sugar and butter, it's the perfect topping for cakes, cupcakes, and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  • Stir in brown sugar and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Add the milk and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Gradually beat in powdered sugar until smooth.
  • Stir in vanilla extract and mix well.
  • Let the frosting cool until it thickens, then spread on cakes or cupcakes.

Notes

  • If the frosting becomes too thick, add a little more milk to thin it out.
  • For extra depth of flavor, use dark brown sugar.
  • Works best when applied to cooled baked goods.
