  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups seafood or chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 lb lump crab meat
  • 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
  • Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in broth, stirring constantly.
  • Add heavy cream, milk, white wine, tomato paste, Old Bay seasoning, and cayenne pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Add crab meat and shrimp, cooking until shrimp turns pink (about 5 minutes).
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For a smoother texture, blend half of the soup before adding seafood.
  • Substitute half-and-half for a lighter version.
  • Serve with crusty bread or oyster crackers.
