Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz rigatoni pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped

  • 1/2 cup pasta water (as needed)

Instructions

  • Cook rigatoni pasta according to package instructions. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions until soft, then add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  • Reduce heat and stir in heavy cream. Let simmer for another 2-3 minutes until creamy.
  • Add Parmesan cheese and stir until melted. If needed, use reserved pasta water to adjust sauce consistency.
  • Toss in cooked rigatoni and mix well to coat.

  • Remove from heat, garnish with fresh basil, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use half-and-half instead of heavy cream for a lighter version.
  • Add cooked chicken or shrimp for extra protein.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
