Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (dark or Dutch-processed)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water (or hot coffee for deeper flavor)

For the Peanut Butter Frosting:

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (adjust as needed)

For the Dark Chocolate Ganache:

  • 8 oz dark chocolate (70% cacao or higher)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for added gloss)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate large bowl, beat sugar, eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Stir in hot water or coffee.
  • Divide the batter between the pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool completely.
  • For the frosting, beat peanut butter and butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt. Gradually add heavy cream to reach the desired consistency.
  • For the ganache, heat cream and pour over chopped dark chocolate. Stir until smooth, then add butter.
  • Assemble the cake by frosting with peanut butter frosting and pouring ganache over the top.

Notes

For deeper chocolate flavor, use hot coffee instead of water. Adjust the thickness of the frosting and ganache by adding more cream as needed.
