  • 1 whole beef brisket (5-7 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 1 cup beef broth or water
  • 2 cups BBQ sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)

For BBQ Brisket Sandwich

  • Sliced BBQ brisket (prepared as above)
  • 8 sandwich buns (brioche or hamburger buns work best)
  • 1 cup coleslaw (optional, for topping)
  • Pickles (optional, for topping)
  • Sliced onions (optional, for topping)
  • Extra BBQ sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven or smoker to 250°F (120°C).
  • Rub the brisket with olive oil, then season with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper if using.
  • Place the brisket in a roasting pan or smoker, add the beef broth or water to the bottom of the pan, and cover tightly with foil.
  • Cook the brisket for 6-8 hours or until tender and easily shredded.
  • Remove from the oven or smoker and let rest for 30 minutes before slicing.
  • To assemble the sandwiches, place sliced brisket on the sandwich buns, top with coleslaw, pickles, and sliced onions if desired.
  • Drizzle with extra BBQ sauce and serve immediately.
