This easy cheese Danish recipe creates a creamy, flaky pastry that's perfect for breakfast or brunch.

  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 package puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk. Beat until smooth.
  • Unfold puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface. Cut into squares or rectangles.
  • Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each pastry square.
  • Fold the corners of each pastry towards the center, slightly overlapping the filling.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush the pastry with the egg wash.
  • Place pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before serving. Optionally, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
