Easy turtle bars combine chocolate, caramel, and pecans in a delicious dessert bar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 2/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a medium bowl, combine 2 cups flour and 1 cup brown sugar. Cut in 1/2 cup softened butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  • Arrange pecan halves over the crust.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 2/3 cup butter. Stir in 1/2 cup brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 1 minute, then pour over the pecans and crust.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  • Let the chocolate chips melt for a few minutes, then spread evenly over the caramel layer with a spatula.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For an extra indulgent touch, drizzle additional melted chocolate on top.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
