Try these Fried Green Cherry Tomatoes for a delightful snack or appetizer. Green cherry tomatoes are coated in a seasoned mixture of flour, cornmeal, and panko breadcrumbs, then fried to crispy perfection. With a touch of cayenne pepper for a hint of heat, these tomatoes offer a satisfying crunch and tangy flavor, ideal for any occasion.

  • 2 cups green cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Rinse and dry the green cherry tomatoes.
  • Set up three bowls: one with flour seasoned with salt, pepper, and optional cayenne pepper; one with beaten egg mixed with buttermilk; and one with cornmeal and panko breadcrumbs combined.
  • Dredge each tomato in the flour, dip in the buttermilk mixture, and then coat with the cornmeal-panko mixture.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Fry the tomatoes in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove the tomatoes from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve immediately as a snack or appetizer.

Notes

 

These are best enjoyed fresh out of the fryer. Serve with a dipping sauce like ranch or aioli for extra flavor.
