Gordon Ramsayโ€™s Lasagna recipe is a delicious and hearty take on the Italian classic, combining layers of rich Bolognese sauce, creamy bรฉchamel, and perfectly cooked pasta sheets, all topped with melted cheese. This lasagna is made from scratch, ensuring deep, robust flavors with ground beef, tomatoes, garlic, and fresh herbs. The bรฉchamel sauce adds a creamy, silky texture that balances the savory meat sauce, creating a satisfying and comforting meal perfect for family dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • Ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • Lasagna sheets (fresh or dried)
  • Onion (chopped)
  • Garlic (minced)
  • Carrot (chopped)
  • Celery (chopped)
  • Tomatoes (canned, crushed)
  • Tomato paste
  • Red wine
  • Olive oil
  • Fresh thyme and basil
  • Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • Mozzarella cheese (shredded)

For the bรฉchamel sauce:

  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Milk
  • Nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bolognese sauce:
    • Heat olive oil in a large pan, sautรฉ onion, garlic, carrot, and celery until soft.
    • Add ground beef and cook until browned.
    • Stir in tomato paste and cook for a minute, then deglaze with red wine. Let it reduce.
    • Add crushed tomatoes, fresh thyme, and basil. Simmer the sauce for 30-40 minutes.
  • Make the bรฉchamel sauce:
    • In a separate pan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
    • Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly until thickened and smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
  • Assemble the lasagna:
    • Preheat the oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
    • In a greased baking dish, spread a layer of Bolognese sauce, followed by a layer of lasagna sheets.
    • Spread a layer of bรฉchamel sauce over the pasta, and sprinkle with Parmesan and mozzarella.
    • Repeat the layers, finishing with a top layer of bรฉchamel and cheese.
  • Bake the lasagna:
    • Cover with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
    • Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of ground beef and pork.
  • Fresh lasagna sheets cook faster and can give a more delicate texture, but dried pasta works great too.
  • Add a bit of milk to the meat sauce for a creamier consistency.
