Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp green onions, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat and set the beef aside.
  2. Stir-fry Broccoli: In the same skillet, add a splash of sesame oil and sautรฉ the diced onion, garlic, and ginger for 2 minutes until fragrant. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 4-5 minutes, until crisp-tender.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and water. If using cornstarch, mix it with the water before adding to the sauce for thickening.
  4. Combine: Add the cooked ground beef back into the skillet with the broccoli. Pour the sauce over the mixture and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the beef and broccoli.
  5. Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, and serve over rice or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, add red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce.
  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • You can steam the broccoli before adding it to the skillet if you prefer a softer texture.
