  • Pizza Dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce (homemade or high-quality store-bought)
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese (sliced or torn into small pieces)
  • Handful of fresh basil leaves (washed and patted dry)
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil (for drizzling)
  • Sea salt (to taste)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for added heat)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C) and if using a pizza stone, preheat it as well.
  • Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to form a 12-inch circle.
  • Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet dusted with flour or cornmeal.
  • Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Distribute the fresh mozzarella pieces evenly over the sauce.
  • Drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt to taste.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves.
  • Sprinkle with crushed red pepper flakes if desired.

Notes

 

For a crispier crust, preheat the baking sheet or pizza stone before placing the pizza on it. Adjust toppings to your preference.
