Loaded green bean casserole combines classic green beans with crispy bacon, sautéed mushrooms, cheddar cheese, and creamy mushroom soup. This indulgent twist on a traditional dish offers layers of flavor and texture, making it a perfect side for holiday meals or comforting family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds fresh green beans, trimmed and cut
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced and sautéed
  • 2 cans (21 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 ½ cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 ½ cups crispy fried onions
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for sautéing)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Blanch the green beans in boiling water for about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter and sauté the garlic and mushrooms until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup, milk, cheddar cheese, sour cream, soy sauce, and pepper until smooth.
  • Stir in the blanched green beans, crumbled bacon, and sautéed mushrooms.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish and top with crispy fried onions.
  • Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • You can substitute frozen or canned green beans if fresh ones aren't available.
  • Add extra cheese on top before baking for a cheesy crust.
  • Adjust the sour cream for a more tangy or creamy flavor.
