For the Pasta Base:

  • 1 lb spaghetti
  • Salt for pasta water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground Italian sausage)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ยฝ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

For the Creamy Cheese Layer:

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ยฝ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ยฝ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Cook the Spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti until al dente, according to package instructions. Drain and toss with 1 tbsp olive oil to prevent sticking. Set aside.
  • Make the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet, cook ground beef (or Italian sausage) over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened. Stir in marinara sauce, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Prepare the Creamy Cheese Layer: In a medium bowl, combine ricotta, cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, Parmesan, and fresh parsley (if using) until smooth and well blended.
  • Assemble the Million Dollar Spaghetti: Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Spread half of the cooked spaghetti in the bottom of a greased baking dish. Spread the creamy cheese mixture evenly over the pasta. Top with the remaining spaghetti and then the meat sauce. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan over the top.
  • Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve: Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve hot.
