Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Dough:
    • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
    • 1/4 cup warm water
    • 1/2 cup warm milk
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • For the Filling:
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1/2 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • For the Cream Cheese Icing:
    • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 2-3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • Activate yeast by mixing with warm water; let sit until frothy.
    • In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, melted butter, pumpkin puree, egg, and vanilla extract. Add in yeast mixture.
    • Gradually add flour, salt, and cinnamon, forming a soft dough. Knead until smooth, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Prepare the Filling:
    • Mix softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves until well combined.
  • Assemble the Rolls:
    • Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread filling evenly over dough.
    • Roll up dough tightly and cut into 12 even slices.
    • Place in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Make the Icing:
    • Beat together cream cheese and butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon, mixing until smooth. Add milk until desired consistency is reached.
  • Serve:
    • Drizzle icing over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the water and milk are just warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
  • For extra pumpkin flavor, slightly increase pumpkin puree and adjust flour as needed.
