Southern-style Honey Butter Cornbread Poppers are the perfect bite-sized treat with sweet honey flavor and a buttery finish. These golden, crispy poppers are made with classic cornbread ingredients and are ideal for parties, snacks, or a comforting side dish.   • 1 cup cornmeal

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 1/4 cup melted butter

  • 2 tbsp honey

  • 1 large egg

  • Oil for frying

  • Extra honey butter for brushing (2 tbsp melted butter + 1 tbsp honey)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • In another bowl, mix buttermilk, melted butter, honey, and egg until smooth.

  • Combine wet and dry ingredients; mix until just combined.

  • Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).

  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of batter and carefully drop into hot oil.

  • Fry until golden brown, about 2โ€“3 minutes per side.

  • Remove and drain on paper towels.

  • Brush with honey butter while warm and serve immediately.

  • Best served fresh and warm.
