  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sugar (divided into ยฝ cup and ยฝ cup)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk (or half-and-half for richer flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Maple syrup, for serving
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter.
  • In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese with ยฝ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
  • In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, ยฝ cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  • Spread half of the bread cubes in the prepared baking dish.
  • Spoon dollops of the cream cheese mixture over the bread cubes.
  • Sprinkle 1 cup of mixed berries over the cream cheese.
  • Layer the remaining bread cubes on top.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread.
  • Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mixed berries on top.
  • Cover with foil and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  • Bake covered for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until golden and set.
  • Let cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup.

  • Use a mix of fresh or frozen berries.
  • For a richer flavor, use half-and-half instead of whole milk.
