  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for whipped cream)

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)

Instructions

  2. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  3. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in milk and vanilla until just combined.

  5. Drop dough onto a baking sheet in 6 equal portions.

  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden. Cool completely.

  7. In a separate bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.

Notes

  • For added flavor, add a splash of lemon juice to the strawberries.

  • Use cold butter to ensure flaky shortcakes.
