Ingredients

Scale

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup finely diced onion
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Casserole:

  • 12 oz egg noodles (cooked and drained)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese (for topping)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Make the Meatballs: In a large bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, diced onion, garlic powder, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Form into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the meatballs in batches until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Prepare the Sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour to create a roux. Gradually add beef broth, whisking continuously until the sauce thickens. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, sour cream, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  • Assemble the Casserole: In the prepared baking dish, spread the cooked egg noodles in an even layer. Top with the meatballs, then pour the creamy sauce evenly over the noodles and meatballs.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • You can use frozen meatballs to save time—just thaw and add to the casserole.
  • For a lighter version, substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream and use low-fat cheese.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach for extra vegetables.
  • This casserole freezes well. Assemble, freeze, and bake when ready.
