  • 2 to 4 tbsp heavy cream or whole milk
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together sifted cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Slowly add egg whites to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Mix in vanilla extract.
  6. Add the dry ingredients alternately with milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. For the frosting, beat butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, cream, and salt. Adjust consistency by adding more cream if needed.
