These tiramisu cupcakes combine the rich flavors of espresso, mascarpone, and cocoa into a delightful handheld dessert. Moist vanilla cupcakes are infused with coffee, topped with a luscious mascarpone frosting, and dusted with cocoa powder for the perfect balance of sweetness and bold coffee flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ½ cup brewed espresso or strong coffee (for soaking)
  • 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)

Mascarpone Frosting:

  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tin with liners.
  • Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cream butter & sugar: Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  • Combine: Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with milk, mixing until just combined.
  • Bake: Fill liners ⅔ full and bake for 18-20 minutes. Let cool completely.
  • Soak cupcakes: Poke holes in cupcakes and brush with espresso (and coffee liqueur, if using).
  • Make frosting: Beat mascarpone, heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Frost & dust: Pipe frosting onto cupcakes and dust with cocoa powder.
  • Chill & serve: Refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving for best flavor.

Notes

  • For a stronger coffee flavor, increase espresso soak.
  • Store in the fridge and consume within 2 days.
  • Can substitute cream cheese for mascarpone if needed.
